Wieland is hiring a Spec Lab Supervisor . The Spec Lab Supervisor will be responsible for oversight of the Spectrometer Lab located in the Casting Plant. Role will be responsible for supervision of hourly laboratory personnel, upkeep of equipment, and driving accurate, precise, and timely measurement and reporting. Additional responsibilities include metrology controls, technology improvements and supporting production needs. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This role will be located in Wieland's East Alton, IL facility.

Requirements

  • Technical degree or a minimum of 5yrs manufacturing laboratory experience.
  • High level of knowledge of laboratory equipment is required.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy is preferred.
  • Knowledge of calibration protocol is required.
  • Knowledge of SPC is preferred.
  • Certification in metrology is desired.
  • Familiar with manufacturing, safety, and quality concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) technical information along with strong organizational skills
  • Strong skill set in ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment is preferred
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to develop a self-directed work team .
  • Strong analysis, critical thinking, and assessment abilities.
  • Self-motivated, high energy and data-driven.
  • Ability to communicate and work with people at all levels of the business, internal and external.
  • Ability to bring the appropriate people and information together to make timely decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage all laboratory activities – hourly employees, supplies, equipment maintenance, equipment calibration, data integrity, product certification, etc.
  • Utilizing Lean principles, develop proficiencies in 5S methodologies, identify opportunities to eliminate waste, improve productivity, and implement cost reduction.
  • Where possible identify opportunities for the system to drive a self-directed work force related to these activities.
  • Continually improve safety performance in all laboratories through active improvements as well as influencing employee behaviors.
  • Accomplish proactive efforts through proper training, active participation, audits, and communication.
  • Understand and support the VPP process.
  • Analysis of laboratory data to drive improvements.
  • Develop additional proficiency in areas of statistics and measurement systems analysis (MSA, GR&R).
  • Support further development of internal and customer SPC requirements as required by each laboratory.
  • Continually develop and support systems that drive efficient, consistent disposition of non-conforming product.
  • Focus on streamlined communication and reporting of held metal as well as management of product sort needs when applicable.
  • Identify improvements to our ISO 9001 quality management systems while supporting prescribed requirements especially in the areas of calibration, prevention, correction, document control, risk analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and improve lab SOPs and work instructions as well as SOJTs.
  • Provide effective employee and labor relations practices compliant with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Execute and engage the team in the Wieland core values.
