About The Position

The incumbent plans, develops, mentors and implements in-patient diabetes management and self-management education (DSME) for patients, families and nursing staff. Develops, revises and implements diabetes education curricula and CE offerings according to identified learning needs. Facilitates competency programs that are consistent with a team approach to diabetes management and education. Collaborates with community resources, medical and nursing staff on patients referred for DSME. Participates in the Diabetes Steering Committee, policy and procedures, patient education, nurse councils, quality and performance improvement and other related activities as may be determined and may apply to diabetes management and education. Provides feedback and solutions to opportunities for enhancing staff performance, clinical competence and professional development. Facilitates an environment that values and enhances learning, knowledge acquisition and professional development.

Requirements

• Associate's degree.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
• BLS from the American Heart Association.
• One year of any of the following: Diabetes Management and Self-Management Education, Teaching experience, RN Clinical Experience.

Nice To Haves

• BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position (for new hires effective June 14, 2017).
• CDE within 4 years of hire or transfer into the position.
• MSN or APRN.
• Less than one year - Diabetes Management and Self-Management Education.
• 1-2 years Teaching experience.
• 3-5 years Clinical Experience.
