About The Position

This is a full-time, year-round position for a Spare School Bus Driver and Custodian within the Mt. Blue Regional School District. The role involves operating a school bus, supervising students, and performing general custodial and maintenance duties to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of school buildings and grounds.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid Maine license to drive a school bus.
  • Must have passed a physical exam as directed by state requirements and comply with stipulations recommended by school’s examining physician.
  • Participate in Driving Dynamics course as recommended by the State and required by the District.
  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical information.
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and equipment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other employees.
  • Be a team player.
  • Self-directed / motivated.
  • Physical ability to lift 40lbs, stand, climb stairs and ladders, lift, push, pull, and bend for extended periods.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Maine State Criminal History Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-trip "walk-around" inspection of the vehicle and report defects.
  • Maintain vehicle oil, coolant, and fuel at proper operating levels.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and orderly.
  • Supervise and discipline passengers during transport.
  • Report students needing further disciplinary action to the Transportation Director.
  • Observe and obey all traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Adhere to assigned schedules and discharge students only at authorized stops.
  • Provide input on bus routes and stops, and notify the transportation office of student changes.
  • Notify the transportation office of mechanical failures or delays.
  • Perform and record at least three emergency evacuations per year for each student load.
  • Attend all transportation safety meetings and apply knowledge gained.
  • Report all accidents to the Director of Transportation & Custodial Services and complete written forms.
  • Perform general custodial and maintenance duties at assigned locations.
  • Provide an adequate custodial inventory of materials and supplies.
  • Perform emergency custodial duties during the school day.
  • Replace materials as needed (e.g., paper towels, soap, light bulbs).
  • Maintain the building in a safe, neat, and orderly fashion.
  • Keep grounds and play areas free from litter.
  • Assume responsibility for the general security of the building.
  • Assume responsibility for the general fire safety of the building.
  • Become familiar with all emergency procedures, including valves, switches, and building equipment.
  • Keep exits and entrances clear and safe, including snow removal and sanding.
  • Maintain portable classrooms associated with the building.
  • Offer input to the Director of Transportation & Custodial Services regarding materials, equipment, procedures, and maintenance needs.
  • Adhere to uniform dress code as per the Support Staff Contract.
  • Follow time clock procedures.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Know and understand the use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Director of Transportation & Custodial Services.
