About The Position

NeighborImpact is seeking an on-call Spanish Translator/Interpreter to facilitate communication between Head Start/Early Head Start families and staff. This role is crucial for bridging cultural gaps and ensuring seamless conversations. The position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of families. The translator/interpreter will be responsible for providing professional translation and interpretation services during various program activities, including enrollments, conferences, family nights, and home visits, while respecting cultural nuances. Opportunities for regular weekly assignments and extended projects are available. Candidates must reside in Central Oregon and be willing to travel across communities such as Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and La Pine.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English.
Employment or volunteer experience interpreting and translating from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
Must be able to ride a school bus with children for assigned periods of time as needed.
Valid driver's license.
Proof of current auto insurance.
Current enrollment in the OR Child Care Division-Criminal History Registry.
Access to reliable transportation required.
Must have an initial health examination, and a periodic re-examination.

Nice To Haves

Employment or volunteer experience working with adults in a helping or teaching capacity.
Employment or volunteer experience in social services preferred.
Current or past Head Start parent preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide essential, professional translation and interpretation services.
Bridge communication gaps between children, families, and staff within Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
