About The Position

Bishop McNamara High School is seeking a Spanish Teacher to join the Modern & Classical Languages department. This private, Catholic co-educational high school in the Holy Cross tradition offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum. The teaching philosophy emphasizes Communicative Language Teaching, aligning with ACTFL goals, and focuses on culture to foster understanding and respect for native speakers. Honors students participate in relevant language exams. The role involves supporting students and collaborating with a team of experienced teachers and mentors.

Requirements

  • Fluent in the target language (Spanish)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Spanish language, language education, or related field
  • Commitment to development of the whole student, in alignment with the Holy Cross tradition of education

  • Experience teaching in a high school, with demonstrated expertise in differentiated instruction
  • Experience using technology to extend and enhance learning, with expertise in synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction

Responsibilities

  • Developing lesson plans in the relevant subject area and grade, and ensuring all lessons align with curriculum objectives.
  • Drawing up classroom procedures and safety regulations and ensuring all students understand them.
  • Using a range of teaching materials and methods to advance student learning.
  • Providing additional support and interventions for students as needed, based on their readiness and learning profile.
  • Preparing students for tests, exams, presentations, experiments, and other assessments.
  • Grading assessments and providing feedback and reports to students and parents.
  • Attending staff and parent meetings to provide helpful recommendations or voice concerns.
  • Establishing rapport and professional relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Supervising students in class, during events, and on field trips.
  • Monitoring students’ overall wellbeing and liaising with school counselors and other staff members when there are concerns or issues.
  • Attending ongoing learning initiatives like workshops, lectures, conferences, and other events where you are able to expand education networks.
