About The Position

Isidore Newman School seeks a full-time long-term substitute Spanish teacher in its Lower School World Languages Department. The role involves teaching students from pre-K through 5th grade, with instruction spanning beginner to advanced Spanish levels. Teaching uses a communicative approach based on target-language use. The ideal candidate has near-native Spanish fluency and experience teaching a wide range of age groups. A commitment to teaching and learning, effective classroom management, collaborative work with colleagues, and the ability to build relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries are essential. Substitute teachers may also assist with additional duties as needed, including snack and mealtimes or carpool.

Requirements

• Fluency in Spanish; near-native fluency is ideal.
• A degree in Spanish or a related field.
• Expertise teaching beginner to advanced Spanish through a communicative approach based on target-language use.
• Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in primary-level instruction and curriculum design.
• Practical knowledge of working with a wide range of learners in elementary grades.
• Ability to build relationships with students of all ages while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Commitment to teaching and learning, effective classroom management, and collaboration with colleagues.

Nice To Haves

• Teaching experience with a wide range of age groups, from pre-K through 5th grade.
• Prior teaching or summer camp experience in the independent school world.
