About The Position

The Academy of the Holy Cross is seeking a Spanish Teacher to motivate students to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing the Spanish language. The role involves sharing the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and helping students discover and develop their language skills within an authentic context. The World Languages department is dedicated to bringing cultures and languages to life through immersion, technology, media, and active use of authentic language, empowering students to be curious, lifelong learners, and vibrant members of a multi-lingual and multi-cultural world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in Spanish language or literature.
  • Demonstrated fluency in Spanish language.
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish grammar and mechanics.
  • Successful teaching experience in a secondary school World Languages program.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Spanish or Education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the communicative classroom and an immersion environment.
  • Comprehends and adheres to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines and core notions of Communication, Cultures, Comparisons, Connections, and Communities.
  • Collaborates with members of the World Languages team to bring the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world to life in the classroom, through the incorporation of authentic resources and technology.
  • Develops lesson plans, learning experiences, and supplementary materials compatible with the instructional philosophy and Mission of the Academy of the Holy Cross.
  • Embraces technology, as appropriate, to enrich our students’ learning experience.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a productive, encouraging, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Evaluates and provides timely feedback on student progress appropriate to the level of instruction, and makes curricular adjustments in accordance with student needs.
  • With the department Chair, selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service educational activities provided by the Academy of the Holy Cross or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.
