About The Position

The Spanish Teacher designs and delivers a vibrant, proficiency-based Spanish curriculum for students in grades 1–8. The ideal candidate is a dynamic educator who aligns with The Montessori Academy of Colorado's mission, vision, and Montessori methodology. This role requires exceptional language proficiency to lead an immersive environment, foster student self-efficacy, model grace and courtesy, and actively contribute to our independent school community.

Requirements

  • Native or near-native fluency in written and spoken Spanish is required. Candidates must be fully equipped to model flawless grammar, pronunciation, and cultural nuances.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Degree in Spanish, Linguistics, or Education preferred).
  • Proven experience teaching children in an educational setting; independent or Montessori school experience is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of, or a strong willingness to learn, Montessori pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, solve problems collaboratively, and build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of a growing program.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver proficiency-based instruction targeting Spanish language skills, concepts, and cultural appreciation.
  • Differentiate the curriculum through individual and small-group instruction to support diverse learning styles and language abilities.
  • Select instructional materials and curriculum assets in partnership with Program Director and Lead Teachers.
  • Manage an accurate inventory of all language program resources and materials.
  • Provide regular assessment data to track student progress and language acquisition; Evaluate student growth objectively; Prepare comprehensive progress reports; Share student insights regularly with Lead Teachers to support holistic student development.
  • Model grace and courtesy to maintain an orderly, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Publish monthly newsletter content to update families on the Spanish program.
  • Showcase student work for the school and broader community at least twice per year.
  • Lead curriculum aligned Spanish relevant field trips/going outs for each community at least twice per year.
  • Engage in school traditions including Back to School Night, Fall Festival, and the annual auction/gala (as schedule allows).
  • Provide primary classroom support during non-Spanish instructional periods within the 5-hour daily shift.
  • Attend Specials team meetings, All-Lead meetings, and community-level sessions when invited.
  • Execute other duties as assigned by the administration to support a growing school program.
  • Participate in directed observations to refine pedagogical practices.
  • Attend school-sponsored in-service education and professional development activities.
  • Pursue self-selected growth activities to maintain current knowledge of language acquisition trends.
