At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Los Angeles, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you’ll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Los Angeles, CA

Requirements

  • Teaching credential required
  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) required
  • Extensive experience working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, nonverbal, and/or have Autism
  • Strong background in Special Education and individualized instruction
  • Experience supporting receptive and expressive communication through ASL and visual communication systems
  • Skilled in teaching foundational literacy skills, including phonics, sight words, vocabulary, and reading comprehension
  • Experience supporting alternative written communication, handwriting, spelling, and sentence development
  • Strong understanding of foundational math instruction, including number recognition, counting, basic operations, and problem-solving
  • Patient, structured, and highly adaptable to individual learning and communication needs
  • Comfortable utilizing visual supports, repetition, modeling, positive reinforcement, and multisensory instructional strategies
  • Able to create individualized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals and student progress

  • Spanish fluency highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one instruction in ASL to strengthen both receptive and expressive communication skills
  • Support language development by expanding functional communication, vocabulary, and conversational signing skills
  • Teach foundational literacy skills, including letter recognition, word recognition, phonics, sight words, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development
  • Support writing development through sentence formation, spelling, handwriting, visual prompts, and alternative methods of written expression
  • Provide foundational math instruction focused on number recognition, counting, basic operations, problem-solving, and real-world math applications
  • Utilize visual supports, hands-on learning activities, and structured repetition to reinforce academic concepts
  • Adapt instruction to meet the needs of a Deaf, nonverbal learner with Autism and an active IEP
  • Implement individualized teaching strategies that support engagement, comprehension, and skill retention
  • Monitor progress toward academic and communication goals and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Collaborate with existing educational supports and align instruction with IEP objectives when appropriate
  • Create a calm, consistent, and supportive learning environment that promotes communication, confidence, and independence
  • Incorporate the student's strengths, interests, and preferred learning modalities to increase engagement and participation
