About The Position

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University announces a search for a candidate to fill a CFS-track (analogous to tenure-track) position to coordinate and teach in the Spanish Teaching BA Program. Initial rank will be consistent with qualifications and experience. This is a Professional-track position with a course-load of 4-3-2, or its equivalent in supervisory/administrative duties (27 credit-hours per year). While this professional position does not have a research/publication expectation, the coordinator is expected to stay current in the field through various professional development activities and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Requirements

  • MA required, PhD preferred in Foreign Language Education, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Curriculum and Instruction, or similar emphasis.
  • Experience teaching Spanish courses at the university level is required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is also required.

Nice To Haves

  • teaching/administrative experience in public K-12 schools is preferred.
  • Preference is given to qualified candidates who are members in good standing of the affiliated church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in the Spanish Teaching BA program (35%)
  • Perform administrative duties (45%), including: Student Recruitment and Student Mentoring Program Coordination and Accreditation Curriculum Development
  • Mentoring of Student Teachers, which generally includes the following: Student Placement, Supervision, & Evaluation Mentor Teacher Training, Professional Learning, & Support Travel to visit schools in the area for clinical (student teaching and practicum) observations
  • Community Outreach
  • Citizenship (20%): Participate in committee assignments depending on Program, Department, College, or University needs. Work in a respectful and collegial manner with all colleagues, including department faculty and staff, adjunct faculty, student teachers, mentor teachers, and administrators from partnership school districts.
