About The Position

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is seeking a full-time Spanish Language and Literature Teacher for grades 6-12. This role involves instructional and planning responsibilities for providing IB Spanish education, taught in Spanish, to students. DCI is a public charter school with over 1600 diverse students, focusing on an International Baccalaureate curriculum, advanced language learning, and student agency supported by 1:1 technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Previous experience teaching in this content area is strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching both literary and non-literary texts.
  • Must have taught literature courses.
  • Clear a background check.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish.
  • Ability to handle the intensity required to work in a high-performing charter school, and remain organized, responsible, and accountable.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Spanish, Latin American or Spanish Literature, or related field is preferred.
  • A Master's Degree in secondary education or this content area is preferred.
  • Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.
  • Experience incorporating International Baccalaureate pedagogy.
  • Past experience teaching DP Spanish (Language A), IB Language and Literature, and similar AP and Honors courses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide IB Spanish education to students, with content taught in Spanish.
  • Deliver exceptional Spanish instruction through immersion methods to diverse learners.
  • Plan curriculum using a deep understanding of and integration with the IB DP Language curriculum framework.
  • Advise students, including teaching an advisory class using the school's advisory curriculum.
  • Support other aspects of the school’s instructional program.
  • Proactively manage the classroom learning environment in accordance with the school’s discipline approach to maximize student engagement and learning.
  • Accept and implement feedback received for real-time improvement.
  • Engage in the IB DP and language and Literature curriculum.
  • Complete professional development work needed to deliver instruction at a high level, following IB DP Program guidelines.
  • Engage in the IB MYP/DP and language immersion.
  • Collaborate with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership.
  • Communicate through a variety of mediums with parents and students.
  • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students.
  • Implement the 1:1 Chromebooks program effectively by infusing technology into instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
