About The Position

The Spanish Immersion classroom fosters a desire for the students to learn and grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, and socially within a Spanish-speaking classroom. The position of a teacher assistant is to support the leadership of the classroom teacher in the language of Spanish in all capacities. The teacher assistant co-labors with the teacher and other staff members to disciple students. In the Spanish immersion program, the classroom environment becomes the setting for language acquisition through subject content instruction and social interaction in the language of Spanish. The teacher assistant interacts with students in the classroom, halls, restrooms, playground, and cafeteria. They also interact with the classroom teacher, staff, faculty, church staff, and parents.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with regard to children, their parents, and colleagues.
  • Love for children and a desire to see that they have a right relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Spiritual gifts of teaching, discernment, service, helps and exhortation.
  • Two years of college education
  • Computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to complete projects on time and follow through efficiently.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Diligence and flexibility… do what is needed to get the job done.
  • Time management skills.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise children during seatwork, reinforcing skills, and giving personalized assistance.
  • Assist with behavior management.
  • Provide one-on-one help for those students who are struggling with academic concepts.
  • Provide prayer and Godly counsel to hurting students.
  • Supervise class while the teacher is conducting small groups.
  • Assist specials teachers with your class as requested.
  • Escort children to and from special classes, restrooms, clinics, and offices as needed.
  • Monitor students in the cafeteria at lunchtime.
  • Wipe tables/chairs, and sweep the café floor.
  • Worship and attend chapel with your class.
  • Assist in observing and assess the ability of each student.
  • Periodic CCFL/CCA staff meeting child care coverage
  • Notify teachers of student behavior or academic skills, as needed.
  • Collect and grade homework and seatwork as requested.
  • Record grades on the computer when directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with preparation of children's daily folders and Thursday Folders.
  • Make copies and prepare materials for lessons and special activities as requested by the teacher.
  • Assist teacher in directing parent volunteers in their tasks.
  • Help teacher in maintaining an orderly classroom.
  • Take daily attendance and lunch counts.
  • Help decorate and tear down bulletin boards in classroom and hallway.
  • Keep up with correspondence in and out of house by way of e-mail and mailbox in office.
  • Filing.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the teacher.
  • Supervise children as assigned: at morning drop-off, in cafeteria during lunchtime, at afternoon pick-up
  • Provide childcare for staff/CCA children on, and during PMD, orientation, teacher planning days, monthly staff meetings., and all-school events such as BTSN.
  • Act as a substitute teacher or office assistant as requested by administration.
  • Serve as greeter for quarterly parent / teacher conferences when needed.
  • Adhere to specified professional dress.
  • Serve under administrative direction as need arises.
