About The Position
The Chinese Immersion teacher provides instruction to students in the Chinese Immersion program to develop grade level appropriate cognitive, academic and interpersonal language abilities in English while developing reading, writing, listening and speaking proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
Requirements
- Professional Educator License endorsed for the grade level to be served; or ELS with appropriate endorsements and or other proof of native-like proficiency in reading, writing listening and speaking English and Mandarin Chinese
Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor each student’s academic and language proficiency growth.
- Implement an effective program of instruction to build biliteracy skills, cultural competence and appropriate grade-level academic knowledge for students.
- Assist in the writing and preparation of the Chinese Immersion curriculum based on research-based instructional best practices.
- Collaborate with grade level classroom teachers to plan the integration of Chinese Immersion students with general education classroom students in both curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- Provide families with ongoing home/school communication, ideas and support for learning Mandarin Chinese.
- Serve as a Chinese Immersion education resource to other staff and interested families.
- To carry out other responsibilities required of general education classroom teachers as well as other duties as assigned by school and district administration
