About The Position

This position is responsible for providing educational support for students in the Spanish dual-language program. This position may assist in multiple grades and classrooms throughout the week. The role involves assisting classroom teachers in establishing a classroom environment that ensures learning and personal growth, fostering effective rapport with students, and motivating them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for responsible citizenship. The aide will assist with instruction, potentially including students with educational risk factors and special needs, and must be able to form relationships with diverse students and families. Guidance from the classroom teacher on differentiating instruction for various developmental needs is required. The position may involve working with students in whole group, small group, and individual settings on academic tasks. Additionally, this role may include student supervision duties such as lunchroom and recess supervision, and providing support to building office staff as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and a high degree of cultural competency.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of confidentiality, motivation, and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing, compiling, and organizing data.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly collaborative team player.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired results.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students in a second language program such as dual-language immersion or ELL classroom – preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-age students – preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess student aptitude to support student progress and learning needs.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers to meet instructional needs.
  • Coordinates with building principal to determine which students should be in small groups.
  • Gathers lesson materials and instructs students with support from classroom teachers.
  • Meets with students for the purpose of working on specific areas of need.
  • May be assigned to lunchroom, recess and other student supervision duties as needed.
  • May be assigned to support the building office staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
