About The Position

METECS is seeking a Spaceflight Hardware Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and test mechanical and electromechanical hardware for spaceflight applications. The role contributes to mechanical hardware development from design through fabrication, integration, and test, combining CAD modeling and drawing preparation with fabrication support, hardware integration, supplier coordination, and participation in development and qualification testing. METECS provides engineering and applied technology solutions for NASA, commercial spaceflight, and other technically demanding applications. Its work spans human spaceflight, modeling and simulation, robotics, software, embedded systems, and system integration and test. Technical professionals collaborate across disciplines on engineering problems throughout the project lifecycle, with opportunities to contribute beyond traditional discipline boundaries and see their impact on delivered solutions. Citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required. METECS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience developing aerospace, spaceflight, or other high-reliability mechanical or electromechanical hardware.
  • Proficiency with three-dimensional CAD, engineering drawings, tolerance analysis, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Practical experience supporting fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of mechanical hardware.
  • Strong mechanical engineering judgment, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Citizenship or lawful permanent residency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mechanisms, controls, robotics, precision electromechanical assemblies, or similar hardware.
  • Familiarity with structural or thermal analysis and environmental testing.
  • Experience developing test fixtures, tooling, or ground-support equipment.
  • Experience coordinating fabrication with aerospace machine shops or contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical concepts, CAD models, drawings, assemblies, bills of material, and interface definitions.
  • Perform mechanical analyses and select materials, components, and manufacturing processes to meet design requirements.
  • Design hardware for manufacturability, assembly, inspection, integration, and test.
  • Coordinate mechanical design and fabrication activities with suppliers, contract manufacturers, technical personnel, and inspectors.
  • Support assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and failure investigation.
  • Develop fixtures, tooling, and ground-support equipment as needed and support verification and environmental testing.
