About The Position

Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. As a Lead Spacecraft RF Payload Engineer, you will design and develop state of the art, space-based RF payloads for our customers. This includes communications systems to link our satellites to each other and to ground stations as well as perform critical missions on-orbit. You will need to work in a team-based environment to work on the unique challenges of developing flexible RF subsystems for small spacecraft on demanding timelines. This position's internal job is Electrophysics Engr/Scientist. Our team is currently hiring for levels 2-3.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in space or aviation RF & Communications system design, analysis, subsystem component selection, and system evaluation
  • Experience calculating link budgets including atmospheric & environmental effects
  • Experience performing antenna design & analysis including sizing, patterns, gains, and usage
  • Experience evaluating and selecting RF components (e.g. LNA, PA sizing and selection)
  • Strong bias for getting things done with collaboration but minimal regimentation in a new emerging aerospace environment
  • The ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • A final U.S. clearance Post Start is required
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing, implementing and testing algorithms for software defined radios
  • Experience with legacy and emerging satellite communications modulation and coding.
  • Experience designing, implementing and testing antennas
  • Experience designing, implementing and testing radios from piece parts level
  • Experience with optical communications links
  • Experience with networking and networked RF communication links
  • Experience with the CCSDS standards
  • Master's Degree or higher
  • Current SSBI or TS/SCI clearance

Responsibilities

  • Leading space vehicle mission trade studies related to communications links
  • Identify & define communications system requirements
  • Identify appropriate communications technologies to meet requirements
  • Collaborating with teammates across multiple disciplines to design, build, test and deliver spacecraft communication products for multiple programs
  • Develop Millennium's own communications technologies from concept to flight readiness
  • Create communications subsystem manufacturing, integration and verification documents
  • Leading communication subsystem manufacturing, integration and verification
  • Operate communications systems on orbit
  • Other job duties as assigned
