About The Position

Working as a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering Designer at BAE Space & Mission Systems is an exciting opportunity to become part of a high-tech team of people developing innovative products for the Aerospace and Defense industry. Tasks are performed under the general direction of technical leads and functional managers, plus mentorship from Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering staff. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, detailed design and drawing generation of spacecraft structural components, interfacing with structural and thermal analysis teams, and overseeing the manufacturing assembly and testing of spacecraft and spacecraft subsystems. Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 2 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing Aluminum honeycomb and CFRP structures for the space environment preferred.
  • Top Secret/SCI security clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and analysis effort for new spacecraft structures from proposal phase through award, detailed design, fabrication, assembly, test, and requirement verification
  • Gain awareness of cost and schedule planning and tracking as well as managing efforts through robust engineering change processes including risk and opportunity management
  • Define, maintain, iterate, and verify the structural requirements that are needed to meet the system and other subsystem requirements and interfaces
  • Generate, iterate, maintain, and release the primary/secondary structure design that meets system and subsystem requirements
  • Working on CAD and doing simple hand structural analysis calculations during proposal and program initial startup
  • Coordination required with personnel from all other spacecraft sub-systems including external interfaces such as customers, customer consultants, payload providers and launch vehicle providers
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
