About The Position

Space Ground System Solutions (SGSS), a subsidiary of Parsons, has an immediate full-time opening for a Spacecraft DevOps Engineer (SDE) starting onsite at our office in Alexandria, VA, and eventually transitioning to work full time at our customer site near La Plata, MD. We are seeking a highly motivated SDE eager to apply their technical skills to the growing field of space technology. This role will be responsible for supporting spacecraft development, integration, testing, and operations through automation, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and infrastructure management. The SDE will work alongside the software team to maintain and support the autonomy of the spacecraft ground system & will review and analyze logs, trends, and other tools to troubleshoot spacecraft and ground system issues. This position will also interface with software team, spacecraft owners, and Tier 2 support team; create and maintain status tracking documentation in order to effectively report spacecraft and ground status to external mission partners and government partners; create and maintain spacecraft and ground operations procedures; create, modify and maintain software scripts and procedures used in automated satellite tracking and monitoring; participate in the testing of new software baselines, support testing rehearsals; and serve as part of an on-call team and respond to critical errors when required.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must meet eligibility requirements associated with obtaining an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar operating systems
  • Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Kubectl
  • Experience writing scripts (examples: shell scripting, Python, etc.)
  • Familiarity with writing playbooks and roles using Ansible
  • Experience with software configuration management tools (examples: git, BitBucket, Gitlab, Jira, etc.)
  • Familiarity with virtualization and cloud technologies (examples: AWS, OpenStack, VMware, Proxmox, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD (examples: Jenkins, Gitlab runners)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience documenting test results for corrective actions
  • Experience interacting with databases (examples: MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Desire to work in the space industry developing and testing satellite command and control systems for test and operations
  • Understanding of networking concepts, system monitoring, and basic IT infrastructure
  • 0-5 years of software engineering/development experience using C/C++ in a Linux environment
  • Experience building, deploying, and running containers (examples: buildah, podman)

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Helm charts and Kubernetes manifests to standardize application deployments
  • Design and build container images, ensuring they are optimized for production workloads
  • Scan container images for vulnerabilities before deployment to ensure application security
  • Develop and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like Gitlab CI/CD and Jenkins
  • Troubleshoot and report software anomalies
  • On-call support – available to report to site 24/7 for one week of every eight to ten weeks
  • On-call support – must be within 1 hour of site during on-call rotations
  • Work in a team environment
