About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Space Systems Integration Engineer within the Global Mission Operations (GMO) department. This role is responsible for leading holistic studies of key national security space capabilities, conducting objective evaluations of system performance, and developing and proposing recommendations that unlock new missions. GMO supports the Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) within the U.S. Space Force and is responsible for ensuring that space capabilities fulfill the mission needs of space, air, maritime, and other users. In this role, you will work closely with acquisition leads, field command units, mission partner organizations, and other FFRDCs to tackle some of the most urgent and high visibility capability architecture and integration challenges facing the U.S. Space Force.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in engineering, science, mathematics, or an equivalent technical field
  • Six or more years of applicable experience in relevant engineering, technical, and/or operational aspects of National Security Space systems
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of contractors, customers, and corporate staff
  • Experience with Aerospace and government customer organizational structure, leadership, and technical points of contact
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative, persistence, and self-management to deliver impactful products in fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environments
  • Willing to travel up to approximately 15% time
  • Active top secret security clearance with access to sensitive compartmented information (TS/SCI) with eligibility for Special Access Program (SAP) clearance; security clearances are issued by the U.S. government, and U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Ten or more years of applicable experience in relevant engineering, technical, and/or operational aspects of National Security Space systems (for Senior Project Engineer)
  • Recognition as a leader in multi-disciplinary systems engineering activities for space systems by peers, management, Aerospace program office, Space Force, and/or contractor personnel (for Senior Project Engineer)
  • Experience collaborating with and/or providing support to Space Systems Command directorates including SSC/BC, SSC/CG, SSC/SN, and/or SC/SZ, or to the National Reconnaissance Office
  • Master’s or PhD degree from an accredited program in engineering, science, mathematics, or an equivalent technical field
  • For Project Engineer: Eight or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in a systems engineering and/or program management environment
  • For Senior Project Engineer: Twelve or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Previous experience working with SPACECOM, NSDC, SWAC, the Space Development Agency, or other national security space users and/or mission partners
  • Active top secret security clearance with SCI and SAP accesses

Responsibilities

  • Developing models of user demand on national security space capabilities including satellite communications (SATCOM), position, navigation, and timing (PNT), space-based sensing and targeting (SBST) in collaboration with organizations across SSC and field and combatant commands
  • Employing these models to evaluate the performance of the space enterprise architecture under a variety of mission scenarios
  • Identifying risks, issues, gaps, and opportunities to improve enterprise performance and collaborating with portfolio acquisition and Space Force policy leadership to drive improvements into the architecture
  • Serving as a technical point-of-contact and mentor for government customers and end users
  • Organizing problems, funding, and products to anticipate future customer needs and proactively develop Aerospace's technical backplane
