About The Position

KBR's National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. KBR is seeking a Space Systems Engineer to work with our team in Colorado Springs, CO supporting the Air Force Research Lab’s Space Warfare Directorate (AFRL/RJ). Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance is required. As a Space Systems Engineer, you will perform engineering work supporting the development of operable systems capable of meeting technical requirements within cost, schedule, mass, and mission constraints. Working in collaborative, small-team environments, you will develop and maintain system models, research subsystem interfaces, support functional and mission analysis, and evaluate current and future space technologies. You will use standard systems engineering and MBSE procedures to complete assigned research, design, development, integration, and analysis activities. You will work with research and development engineers, modeling and simulation analysts, program leadership, and government customers to improve requirements traceability, support subsystem integration, identify issues early, and translate technical guidance and analysis results into usable engineering information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Math or Science
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of systems engineering experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in cross-functional planning, coordination and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of systems engineering and integration activities
  • Hands-on technical drive and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Math or Science
  • Proficiency in Cameo and/or SparxEA applications
  • Experience with space technologies and/or space operations
  • Object Management Group (OMG)-Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) Certification
  • Statistical techniques for approaching complex problems with large amounts of data
  • Application of operations research techniques and supporting skills such as database query languages, design of experiment and response surface methodologies, scripting language programming, and development of appropriate models and simulations
  • Experience with agile development processes
  • Familiar with M&S tools such as AFSIM, Systems Tool Kit (STK), Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM), and/or System Effectiveness Analysis Simulation (SEAS)
  • Advanced proficiency with programming languages (Python, C++, R etc.)
  • Active TS/SCI

Responsibilities

  • Assist in efforts to create and extend system models using existing requirements, interface documentation, and related design and systems engineering documents
  • Enable mission-level modeling, simulation and analysis using Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) by defining and structuring MBSE elements and data flow
  • Assist in system-level integration, verification, and validation activities
  • Develop and support the analysis of digital models for Space Vehicles and their missions.
  • Demonstrate sufficient level support for framing conceptual challenges, developing and documenting methodologies to model, simulate, and analyze those challenges
  • Communicate (both written and verbal) clear insights and observations based on complex analytical models and technical data interpretation to senior-level leadership and external customers
  • Collaborate with a range of organizations and customers to obtain necessary authoritative data, analytic techniques, and assumptions so that results from the above activities remain consistent with the general analytic community
  • Demonstrate technical ownership and accountability
  • Provide MBSE and SysML or UML expertise and related support to the modeling, simulation & analysis (MS&A) studies team
