About The Position

The Structural Analyst will perform structural strength analysis for non-flight hardware. This work is in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Job duties include: Development of formal stress analysis packages for ground support and special test equipment using strength of materials and finite element-based methods. Interfacing with design engineers to provide inputs to preliminary designs Development and delivery of reports and presentations to management Collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of structural hardware.

Requirements

A degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering field from an ABET accredited institution is required.
Ph.D. with some experience
MS with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 8+ years of experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Proficiency in one or more of the major commercial finite element codes (e.g., FEMAP, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS).
Experience in the application of finite element methods and the assessment of failure mechanisms such as rupture, yield, buckling, and fatigue.
Experience in analysis of joints containing mechanical fasteners or welds.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
