About The Position

Functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. Consistently maintains a professional, therapeutic, helpful image and attitude. Provides emotional support to families in crisis. Provides Spanish translation and interpretation for all aspects of emergency care.

Requirements

• Associates degree required.
• High school diploma required.
• Demonstrates proficiency in English and secondary language.
• Spanish interpreters / translators must meet Spanish proficiency levels defined by Cook Childrens Health Care System and measured by objective and nationally recognized oral language, reading and writing tests.
• All applicants are tested to determine their Spanish proficiency level to qualify for employment.
• Applicants must meet minimally required Spanish proficiency levels.
• Testing will be administrated by a contracted testing service prior to completion of the employment process.
• Applicants must test at the proficient level to qualify.
• Subsequent to employment, Spanish proficiency levels are verified as part of the employees annual review.
• Testing is administered by a contracted testing service.
• Demonstrated ability to read and write in English and Spanish.
• The ability to relate to a diverse cultural and ethnic population.
• Heart saver Courses provided by American Heart Association is required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy, MC 175

Nice To Haves

• At least two years experience in a direct patient care setting preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology an asset.
• Previous interpretation / translation experience preferred.
• Special consideration for experienced translator in the following language: Spanish.
