About The Position

The School of Health Sciences and Wellness is hiring three undergraduate students to work with Assistant Professor Tami Swenson and the South Wood County Population Health Project. Students will assist with one of two programs managed under the South Wood County Population Health Project. Option 1: UWPS Healthy LifeStars Student trainers will lead weekly sessions for after school programs sponsored by South Wood County YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of Wisconsin Rapids Area at the Nekoosa Public Schools District, the Port Edwards Elementary School, and the Boys and Girls Club in Wisconsin Rapids. Duties include lesson planning focused on increasing physical activity, improving nutrition, and setting goals and activity planning for interactive games and active play sessions. Student trainers may be required to drive UWSP fleet cars to the after school programs for other UWSP students completing service requirements in their coursework and assisting the trainers with the afternoon session. Option 2: Trusted Vaccine Information Hub The student will work collaboratively with community groups and UWSP faculty preparing research surveys, summarizing scientific evidence base, and developing parent resources to improve childhood vaccination rates in South Wood County. The first phase of the project will be HPV vaccination as cancer prevention and creating Marshfield Clinics new trusted information resource section in their Out of School Network Alliance website, blogsphere, and podcast series. The second phase is direct work with MacMillan Library Youth Programming with Wood County Public Health for trusted information resources to promote MMR vaccines. All project work will be supervised by Tami Swenson.

Requirements

  • Student must be in good academic standing.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Compliance with HIPAA Laws.
  • Become an authorized driver per UW-System's authorized driver policy in the event a student needs to drive a UWSP fleet vehicle.
  • Professional communication.
  • Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office software.
