About The Position

This position is for a South Bay School Year Crew, consisting of 6 high school-aged members and 2 young adult Field Leaders. The crew will complete conservation projects around the South Bay Area, with all projects conducted outdoors. Crews work every other Saturday from October 24th, 2026, through May 15th, 2027. An overnight, 2-night camping trip is scheduled for the springtime. The main goal for the school year season is for crew members to gain conservation work skills through hands-on experiences and complete projects designed to increase climate resiliency and access to green spaces in their communities.

Requirements

  • Be a current High School Student.
  • Must be available for all program dates, barring emergencies.
  • Possess the current ability to perform manual, physical labor in the outdoors for up to 8 hours per day, rain or shine barring inclement weather (including lifting heavy materials, digging with shovels, using hand tools, hiking, planting trees/native plants, weeding, and some light construction).
  • Have a team-oriented mindset and a desire to work and learn outdoors.
  • Must have the ability to legally work in the USA.

  • Experience or interest in conservation work or related environments/skills.

Responsibilities

  • Completing conservation work projects with local worksite partners.
  • Obtaining First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Participating in camping and practical outdoor skills training.
  • Developing tool use skills and maintenance knowledge.
  • Learning urban agriculture basics.
  • Engaging in community outreach and climate change educational activities.
  • Assisting with local volunteer events.
  • Increasing local ecological knowledge.
  • Finding meaningful connection with nature to become lifelong stewards and advocates of natural resources.
  • Completing bi-weekly timecards.
  • Completing a cumulative end-of-season multimedia project together as a crew to present at graduation.
  • Completing post-season surveys and providing camping feedback.
