About The Position

Ronald McDonald House Dallas provides a safe, supportive, and caring home-away-from-home for families whose children are receiving medical treatment away from home. We provide lodging, meals, family activities, and support services at no cost to families. Our House serves three meals every day, 365 days a year, through staff, volunteers, and community meal groups. The Sous Chef supports the Chef in all aspects of the food service program, including daily kitchen operations, meal preparation, food safety, volunteer engagement, inventory management, and supervision of kitchen staff. The Sous Chef serves as the kitchen leader in the Chef's absence while helping provide an exceptional experience for guest families.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive culinary experience.
  • Experience in a commercial, institutional, healthcare, hospitality, or nonprofit kitchen.
  • Current Texas Food Manager Certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, HACCP principles, and health department regulations.
  • Experience with food preparation, inventory management, ordering, and kitchen organization.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn kitchen inventory and scheduling software.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary degree, certificate, or formal culinary training preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chef in leading daily commercial kitchen operations.
  • Prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals for guest families.
  • Help develop healthy, cost-effective menus and recipes.
  • Supervise Food Service Coordinators and Kitchen Volunteers in the Chef's absence.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, purchasing, and kitchen organization.
  • Coordinate and support volunteer meal groups and community partners.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and assist with preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Chef and other departments to enhance the family experience.
  • Step into the Chef's leadership role as needed.
