SALARIED SOUS CHEF - MIAMI UNIVERSITY - OXFORD, OH
About The Position
Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a Sous Chef at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. The role supports culinary operations for student dining, including assisting with supervision, food preparation and cooking, developing daily menu items and their preparation and garnishment, and potentially supervising hourly associates. The Sous Chef collaborates with the Executive Chef and culinary team on menu development and ordering. The position offers potential for professional advancement within Chartwells’ growing culinary operations. The Sous Chef also supports cost control and account expenditures, plans menus, produces catering events, rolls out culinary programs with marketing and culinary teams, and builds client relationships to support satisfaction and retention. Other duties may be assigned to support dining service operations.
Requirements
- Culinary or kitchen management experience, depending on formal degree or training.
- Experience using computers.
- ServSafe® certification.
Nice To Haves
- Associate of Science degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience in high-volume, complex foodservice operations.
- Institutional and batch cooking experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends, with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with managing cost controls and controlling account expenditures.
- Assist the Executive Chef and culinary team with planning and creating menus.
- Produce and execute catering events.
- Roll out new culinary programs with the marketing and culinary teams.
- Foster client relationships to align programs with client objectives and drive satisfaction and retention.
- Support supervision, preparation, and cooking of food items and develop daily menu items, including their preparation and garnishment.
- May supervise hourly associates and assist with ordering.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support dining service operations.
