About The Position

Mare Island Brewing Co. is seeking a seasoned and experienced Sous Chef to join their management team at the First Street Taphouse in Benicia. This role reports directly to the Head Chef, with oversight from the Food & Beverage Director, and is responsible for managing culinary operations. The First Street Taphouse features a creative seasonal menu, full table service, and is their most culinary-driven location. The company also operates a Coal Shed Brewery on Mare Island (production facility, event space, and food truck) and the Vallejo Ferry Taproom, their first location which has a fully realized kitchen. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to food production, command of kitchen operations including menu development, catering, to-go menus, food costing, vendor relations, ordering, spreadsheets, hiring/firing, scheduling, staff development, maintenance, emergency handling, and ideally, physical space build-outs. Excellent communication skills, a belief in craft beer (brew knowledge is a plus), a positive attitude, honesty, reliability, and common sense are essential. This is a demanding role requiring hard work, with significant opportunity for success and fun.

Requirements

  • Seasoned and experienced Sous Chef
