About The Position

The Commodity Manager is responsible for sourcing strategies and supply base performance for a defined business segment within that Division. The development of strategies and management of that supply base are achieved directly by the Commodity Manager, or may include leading a team of Sourcing Agents that are responsible for individual commodities. This role can be locating in Cary, NC or Erie, PA. Directly, and/or via their team, coordinates development, communication and implementation of commodity and negotiation strategies on a global basis. Strategies will focus on Total Cost of Ownership, Risk Reduction and current corporate and regional metrics. Responsible for negotiating complex business agreements and other contractual instruments with a global supply base. Drives all key sourcing decisions on global supply base for the defined business segment within the Division. Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers that meet technical, quality, cost, delivery, and capacity requirements, including coordination of material samples required by the technology team. Lead supplier RFQ processes, cost analysis, negotiations, and supplier award recommendations to support business and project objectives. Drive supplier readiness activities, including capacity planning, lead-time validation, risk assessment, and production ramp-up support. Support the transition from development sourcing to production purchasing, ensuring clear handoff and ongoing supply chain ownership. Responsible for communicating and managing changes in demand and/or material costs for raw materials by maintaining close communications with the Sourcing Agents, supply base, sales, technology and manufacturing entities. Management of these changes includes expansion/contraction of supply base and insource/outsource of manufactured products. Identification and management of issues related to flow, turn, and economic order quantities, length of supply chain, storage requirements, and obsolescence. Development and implementation of risk reduction activities for the defined business segment within the Division. Travel to global manufacturing facilities and suppliers to facilitate strategy development/implementation, negotiations, development of global relationships and supplier manufacturing site evaluations. Travel may be up to thirty (30) percent of the time.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of sourcing experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience with direct contract and price negotiations
  • Demonstrated past success in global sourcing and value analysis with external suppliers
  • Understanding of MRP Systems, specifically supply chain transactions and master data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 360 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint)
  • U.S. Citizenship, Permanent Residency or other appropriate status is required for certain positions, in accord with U.S. import & export regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) to Eight (8) years of chemical sourcing experience dealing with chemical commodities
  • Three (3) to Eight (5) years of direct report management experience
  • Certified Purchasing Manager
  • ASQ or IASSC Green/Black Belt

  • Travel to global manufacturing facilities and suppliers for strategy development/implementation, negotiations, relationship development, and site evaluations (up to 30% of the time).
