About The Position

The Sourcing Analyst Buyer plays a critical role in optimizing the supply chain for Duke University and the Duke University Health System. This position is responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing enterprise-wide procurement activity data to identify opportunities for service improvement and cost reduction. The Sourcing Analyst Buyer bridges the gap between data analytics, strategic sourcing, and clinical operations to ensure the academic and medical communities have reliable access to high-quality products and services.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication, problem-solving, and logistical skills.
  • Ability to accurately process and manage significant amounts of detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the specific use and application of supplies in surgical and procedural settings.
  • Advanced skill level and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Access and PowerPoint.
  • Possess a proactive, customer-based philosophy with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to be sensitive to customer needs through the application of quality service principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster and build relationships across diverse clinical and operational teams.
  • Proven ability to lead by example.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3 years of clinical purchasing, procurement, or related experience (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience).
  • Valid Driver's License may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Tableau experience is preferred.
  • Master's degree and/or professional certifications in Supply Chain or a related field are strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare certifications (e.g., Surgical Technician, LPN) are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of commodity volumes, buying habits, and vendor performance using advanced procurement software systems.
  • Determine the non-labor financial and operational impact of supply utilization across the academic and medical community.
  • Compile, compare, and present data-driven reports, graphs, and charts to departmental and supplier management teams.
  • Identify and implement best-practice methods for integrating new supply sources, new products, and actual product selections on an institution-wide basis.
  • Establish and drive standards programs for products and services utilized university-wide to optimize inventory and purchasing power.
  • Participate in special commodity teams for specific one-time or large-scale strategic purchases.
  • Recommend data-backed vendor and product selections.
  • Evaluate supplier performance continuously through report analysis and internal customer feedback.
  • Communicate directly with suppliers regarding performance expectations, addressing and resolving service issues that impact institutional operations.
  • Establish robust measurement tools and KPIs to benchmark contract compliance and vendor performance over time.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide Purchasing Assistants.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with clinical staff and external customers to promote efficient, safe patient care.
  • Perform additional job functions as directed by supply chain management to ensure safe patient care practices are consistently met.
