About The Position
Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Sorter to join their team. The Sorter will be responsible for sorting and picking through refuse at their MRF / Optical Sorting Facility (Materials Recovery Facility). This role is crucial in preventing wrongly recycled products from entering the environment's waste and recycling stream. The Sorter will learn to identify appropriate products alongside the optical sorting machinery.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
- Able to work in an outdoor environment on a constant basis.
- Able to be exposed to variable weather conditions, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, smells, and loud noises.
Responsibilities
- Sort and pick through refuse at the MRF / Optical Sorting Facility.
- Identify appropriate products in the recycling stream.
- Stand for four hours at a time (based on shift and break rotations).
- Work in hot and cold weather (work area reflects outdoor temperature).
- Sort through recyclables on a moving conveyor belt.
- Perform sweeping during cleanup time.
- Perform light shoveling.
- Perform occasional lifting (less than 50lbs).
- Use hand tools like pliers for cleaning of baled product.
- Spend shift standing on feet alongside conveyor belts.
- Handle exposure to odors, hot or cold weather, and physically touching items in the recycling stream.
