About The Position

Performs routine and advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a specialist skill level. Responsibilities include performing various ultrasound examinations such as abdominal, retroperitoneal, obstetric and gynecology, small parts, and neonatal head scans, as well as vascular exams and assisting with interventional procedures. The role also involves scheduling cases, positioning and transferring patients, selecting appropriate technical factors and equipment, maintaining equipment, preparing documentation, and utilizing the PACS digital image storage system. Specific to the WellSpan Medical Group/Maternal Fetal Medicine, duties include directing patients to rooms and obtaining vital signs. Common expectations involve demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the life span, assessing and interpreting age-specific data, providing age-specific treatment, and direct patient care. The role requires a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff safety by complying with regulations, reporting errors and hazardous conditions, and participating in safety education. Maintaining established policies, procedures, and quality standards is essential. Professional growth is encouraged through educational programs and literature. Record keeping of examination data is required. The position emphasizes outstanding customer service, teamwork, and fiscal responsibility. Supervision and evaluation of students in clinical settings are also part of the role, along with securing and returning supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecology scans, small parts and neonatal head scans, vascular exams, and assist with interventional procedures.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedure.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Selects and operates equipment as needed to perform required exams.
  • Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts outside service for major malfunctions.
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Knowledge and use of digital image storage system PACS.
  • Direct patients to rooms and obtain vitals of patients.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
  • Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.

  • Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.

  • Supervises, assists and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
  • Secures and returns supplies such as film, linens, medicine, patient folders.
