About The Position

This role involves following clearly defined diagnostic sonography procedures to deliver high-quality images to physicians and other healthcare providers for diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of injury or disease. The Sonographer integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to execute safe and precise procedures, delivering accurate results in a timely manner. They gain confidence and cooperation from patients, their families/support groups, and other healthcare providers through competent patient assessment, attentive monitoring, and effective communication. Adherence to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures is required to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. The position is for a Sonographer I, II, or III, with increasing complexity and independence expected for higher levels.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program OR possession of ARDMS evidencing completion of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
  • ARDMS-American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer within 90 days of hire (Sonographer I) / Upon Hire (Sonographer II & III)
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Upon Hire
  • General knowledge of diagnostic sonography principles, procedures, and views as well as the operation and maintenance of imaging equipment (Sonographer I).
  • Capable of performing routine sonographic examinations as well as a basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology (Sonographer I).
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Good time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS)) (Sonographer I).
  • Work under close supervision or within clearly defined procedures to complete assignments within established timeframes (Sonographer I).
  • Use existing procedures to identify and solve routine or standard problems (Sonographer I).
  • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
  • Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.
  • Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic sonography principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including some experience responding to traumas and various hospital emergencies (Sonographer II).
  • Proficient in performing sonographic examinations with a solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious or abnormal results (Sonographer II).
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline (Sonographer II).
  • Working knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS)) (Sonographer II).
  • Ability to work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions (Sonographer II).
  • Ability to identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options (Sonographer II).
  • Advanced knowledge of diagnostic sonography principles, procedures, views, and equipment, including substantial experience responding to traumas, code blues, medical alerts, STAT calls, and various hospital emergencies (Sonographer III).
  • Skilled in performing sonographic examinations with an extensive understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology so as to recognize, prioritize and communicate suspicious or abnormal results (Sonographer III).
  • Robust knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) and related information systems (Radiology (RIS), laboratory (LIS), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and picture archive and communication system (PACS)) (Sonographer III).
  • Prioritize activities and work within defined policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines; help determine appropriate approach for new assignments (Sonographer III).
  • Use experience and existing precedents or procedures to resolve atypical or infrequent problems; provide informal guidance and support to junior team members (Sonographer III).

Nice To Haves

  • Must possess two of the following: AB-Abdomen certification, BR-Breast certification, FE-Fetal Echocardiography certification, OB/GYN-Obstetrics & Gynecology, PS-Pediatric Sonography, RVT-Registered Vascular Technician (Sonographer II).
  • Must possess three of the following: AB-Abdomen certification, BR-Breast certification, Fetal Echocardiography (FE) certification, OB/GYN-Obstetrics & Gynecology, PS-Pediatric Sonography, RVT-Registered Vascular Technician (Sonographer III).

Responsibilities

  • Follow clearly defined diagnostic sonography procedures to deliver high quality images to physicians and other health care providers for the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and prevention of injury or disease.

  • Perform routine and specialized sonography procedures of moderate to high complexity (depending on level).
  • Work independently, exercising sound judgment and executing clinical skills on challenging diagnostic procedures and situations (Sonographer II & III).
  • May be responsible for performing specific procedures and/or orienting other staff to the department (Sonographer II & III).
