About The Position

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Sonographer to join its team. This is a PRN role with varying shifts. The Sonographer communicates with patients to gather clinical history and informed consent, explains procedures, assists physicians with examinations using department protocols and appropriate precautions or sterile techniques, and responds to clinical or emergent issues that could affect examinations.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• No licensure required.
• Basic Life Support certification is required upon start.
• Hold ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS, or RVT certification as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months of hire.
• Recent experience in a hospital or healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.

Nice To Haves

• At least 1 year of experience as a sonographer.
• ARDMS certification.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent from patients or their charts, supporting physicians in performing and interpreting examinations.
• Explain procedures to patients and families and answer questions to ease anxiety and encourage patient cooperation.
• Assist physicians in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
• Recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with examinations, take appropriate action to resolve them, and produce desirable outcomes.
