Provides diagnostic patient care services using diagnostic medical sonography. This position is bonus eligible. The role involves performing all Ultrasound procedures using independent judgment to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings, analyzing sonograms, and communicating findings to the appropriate physician. Imaging quality must meet quality control standards and protocol requirements. The Sonographer is expected to stay updated on departmental changes, explain procedures to patients, maintain patient comfort, and ensure a sanitary and organized environment. Responsibilities also include charging procedures and supplies, resolving scheduling conflicts, maintaining ethical communication standards, and ensuring proper handoff to the relieving shift. The role requires operating the PAC's system, verifying studies, and ensuring exams are read by a radiologist. Familiarity with HIPPA mandates and Prisma Health guidelines for electronic communications is necessary. The Sonographer must also report equipment problems, maintain passwords, recognize and respond to emergency situations, and monitor for unsafe conditions. Additionally, this role involves mentoring newly hired sonographers and instructing sonography students, including evaluating student progress and communicating with academic institutions. The Sonographer will perform quality checks on sonograms, demonstrate excellent independent judgment and critical thinking, troubleshoot complex studies, and assist other sonographers. Other duties as assigned.
