North Alabama Medical Center is a 263 bed facility offering the community’s only open heart surgery site, a complete line of women’s and children’s services and a complete line of medical and imaging services. North Alabama Medical Center’s 24-hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for major trauma cases in Northwest Alabama. Requirements

• Associate’s degree Required; Graduate of approved program of Ultrasound/Sonography or equivalent.
• ARDMS Registered or if new graduate, must be ARDMS eligible and pass a test in at least one area (i.e. Abdomen, OBGYN) including physics within one year of employment.
• State license to practice as a Sonographer.
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

• Under the general guidance of the physicians/providers performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures.
• Receives patients, explains method of procedure and makes sure patient is comfortable.
• Provides patient services to all ages using imaging modalities.
• Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices.
• Maintains equipment and supplies and organizes work area.
• Keeps accurate records, helps with scheduling of the ultrasound and keeps patient flow smooth.
• Checks the physician's requisition for complete information on the procedure requested' refers any questions to the ultrasound physician before performing the procedure.
• Assists the radiologist/referring physician in invasive procedures using sterile technique while maintaining infection control guidelines.
• Recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the monitor and be able to differentiate artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures within equipment limitations.
• Possesses an in-depth knowledge of anatomy/physiology, technical expertise and able to improve standard procedures to enhance diagnostic results when needed.
