The sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of ultrasound equipment. The sonographer performs scans according to department guidelines and communicates results to the attending physician when appropriate. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field and new procedures as they evolve.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
  • ARDMS or Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) (required)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in OB/GYN Ultrasound (preferred for OB/GYN department) (required)
  • ARDMS registered in OB/GYN within 9 months of hire date (only required for OB/GYN department)
  • Nuchal translucency certified within 9 months of hire date (required)
  • CLEAR certified within 9 months of hire date (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Electronic Medical Record experience (preferred)
  • PACS and DR System experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient chart for physician order and patient history
  • Correlates patient history with exam to be performed
  • Prepares patient and equipment for appropriate exam
  • Presents scan to physician and communicate pertinent information regarding patient
  • Disinfects probes according to guidelines
  • Schedules patients for follow-up appointments
  • Enters patient reports into reporting system
  • Preps charts for future appointments making sure records and orders are present, and authorizations have been obtained
  • Assist other staff with duties and responsibilities as appropriate and as time allows
  • Completes state inspection sheets monthly
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms
  • Places service call for equipment failures and reports to management
  • Checks email daily to communicate with management and staff
  • Evaluates department schedules for scheduling conflicts
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
