About The Position

North Alabama Medical Center is seeking a Sonographer to join their team. This is a full-time position within Lifepoint Health, a healthcare delivery network committed to employee well-being and community health. The Sonographer will perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures under the guidance of physicians/providers. The role requires an Associate's degree, graduation from an approved Ultrasound/Sonography program or equivalent, and ARDMS/CCI registration or eligibility. A Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also required. The Sonographer will be responsible for performing Echo and Vascular studies, explaining procedures to patients, operating ultrasound equipment, maintaining equipment and supplies, communicating with physicians, keeping accurate records, and ensuring smooth patient flow. They must also be able to recognize significant structures, differentiate artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures, and possess in-depth knowledge of anatomy/physiology to enhance diagnostic results.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree Required
  • Graduate of approved program of Ultrasound/Sonography or equivalent.
  • ARDMS/CCI Registered or if new graduate, must be ARDMS/CCI eligible and pass a test in at least one area, i.e. ECHO OR VASCULAR within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures under the general guidance of physicians/providers.
  • Able to perform Echo and Vascular studies to include, Arterial and Venous as well as reflux studies.
  • Receives patients, explains method of procedure and makes sure patient is comfortable.
  • Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine non invasive procedures according to established standards and protocols.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies and organizes work area.
  • Communicates well with physicians directly.
  • Keeps accurate records, helps with scheduling of the ultrasound and keeps patient flow smooth.
  • Checks the physician's requisition for complete information on the procedure requested' refers any questions to the ultrasound physician before performing the procedure.
  • Recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the monitor and be able to differentiate artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures within equipment limitations.
  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of anatomy/physiology, technical expertise and able to improve standard procedures to enhance diagnostic results when needed.
