About The Position

The Sonographer Supervisor provides operational leadership, clinical oversight, and advanced sonography expertise across Outpatient Radiology and affiliated imaging locations. This role is responsible for ensuring excellence in patient care, regulatory compliance, staff development, quality assurance, and departmental efficiency while maintaining active clinical practice. The Supervisor serves as the primary liaison among ultrasound staff, physicians, patients, hospital leadership, and organizational stakeholders. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Supervisor performs advanced ultrasound examinations and supports strategic initiatives designed to improve service delivery, patient outcomes, and imaging quality.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Radiology or Graduate of an Allied Health Program
Minimum six (6) years of clinical ultrasound experience
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
Current CPR/BLS Certification

Responsibilities

Direct and coordinate daily ultrasound operations across all supported locations.
Ensure efficient workflow, patient throughput, and resource utilization.
Monitor staffing levels and adjust assignments based on operational demands.
Develop, maintain & be part of the entire staff schedules.
Coordinate rotations to include ALL sonographers: East Campus coverage, Hospital coverage, Weekend assignments, Holiday schedules, On-call responsibilities, Coverage for WIVA.
Ensure equitable distribution of departmental coverage requirements.
Hold biweekly huddles with the team.
Serve as a mentor, resource, and leader for ultrasound personnel.
Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.
Conduct employee coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development activities.
Foster employee engagement and team collaboration.
Monitor productivity metrics and quality indicators.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost containment.
Assist with budget planning and resource allocation.
Support departmental reporting and performance analysis.
Serve as the primary departmental contact for physicians, patients, leadership, and clinical partners.
Facilitate communication between leadership and staff.
Lead departmental meetings and disseminate operational updates.
Maintain competency in all required ultrasound procedures.
Independently perform routine, advanced, and specialized examinations.
Provide imaging services for: Pediatric patients, Adolescent patients, Adult patients, Geriatric patients, MFM patients.
Function as a clinical resource for sonographers and imaging personnel.
Assist with complex examinations and challenging cases.
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of imaging protocols, pathology, and ultrasound technology.
Participate in image review and quality assurance activities.
Make appropriate clinical decisions based on patient condition and examination requirements.
Support implementation of imaging protocol updates and procedural changes.
Coordinate department orientation and training programs for new employees.
Develop and administer competency assessments.
Train staff on equipment, procedures, and emerging technologies.
Implement new hire competency check lists and QA logs.
Establish and maintain departmental quality standards.
Lead quality assurance initiatives.
Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a clinical instructor and educational resource.
Support student learning experiences and affiliate training programs.
Assist with external facility implementation and “Go Live” activities.
Perform patient assessments within scope of practice.
Verify patient identity using approved identification standards.
Review physician orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
Prioritize emergent and routine examinations appropriately.
Ensure efficient patient flow and timely service delivery.
Work with Mammography on timely coordination for mutual patients.
Maintain effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members.
Promote a positive patient experience through professional and compassionate care.
Maintain proficiency in ultrasound equipment and image management systems.
Monitor equipment performance and imaging quality.
Perform quality control testing and equipment evaluations.
Coordinate repairs, maintenance activities, and vendor service requests.
Ensure equipment cleaning and disinfection standards are maintained.
Monitor supply inventories.
Coordinate ordering and replenishment processes.
