About The Position

This is an on-site position at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. The role is an Optional Part-Time position with a minimum commitment of 3 shifts per month, primarily supporting PTO, LOA, and fluctuating staffing needs. The primary shifts are Monday-Friday, first shift (approx. 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM), with no weekend or holiday coverage required. The position includes a dedicated onboarding and training period to learn Advanced Radiology Procedures (ARP) workflows and procedural expectations. The role requires knowledge of imaging techniques for all areas of ultrasound, including OB/GYN, Abdominal, Small Parts, Breast, Vascular, OR, and Procedures, in accordance with ACR guidelines and department policies. The position also supports patient flow, scheduling, care coordination, documentation in EPIC and utilization of PACS/Radiant systems, room readiness, and patient transport. The organization is a partnership between Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin, operating eastern Wisconsin's only academic medical center and adult Level I Trauma center.

Requirements

  • Graduate or a student in a program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), United States Department of Education (USDOE) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA), that specifically conducts programmatic accreditation for diagnostic medical sonography/diagnostic cardiac sonography/vascular technology.
  • Currently the only organizations that offer programmatic accreditation under the aforementioned associations are the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
  • Proficient with ultrasound equipment
  • Basic knowledge of patient care equipment
  • Newly hired, experienced sonographers must be registry eligible through the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers).
  • Sonographers will be required to be registered in Abdomen (AB), OB/GYN (OB) and Vascular (VT).
  • Breast registration required at sites that perform Breast Ultrasound.
  • Each registry not obtained at the time hire will need to be completed every 9 months until all registries are complete.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life support for the Healthcare provider (BLS) or an American Heart Association (AHA) approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of current clinical experience is preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Ultrasound/Sonography is preferred.
  • Substantial training and current clinical experience with ARDMS registry will be accepted.
  • Familiarity with McKesson PACS, Epic EMR is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care, including intake, history, and education
  • Prepare and position patients for imaging and procedures
  • Assist with procedures, including setup, sterile technique, and specimen handling
  • Perform sonographic imaging as needed to support workflows
  • Support patient flow, scheduling, and care coordination
  • Triage patient questions and communicate with the care team
  • Assist with documentation and follow-up coordination
  • Maintain room readiness, supplies, and equipment
  • Document in EPIC and utilize PACS/Radiant systems
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team
  • Support clinic operations and administrative tasks as needed
  • Transport of patients
  • Provide 24/7 coverage of the Ultrasound Service with rotating Saturdays, holidays and call coverage.
  • Perform ARP workflows and procedural expectations.
