Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited vascular or echocardiogram technical program (2 year program).
  • 2 years of clinical experience in field of vascular or echo.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registered or board eligible required.
  • Registered Vascular Tech (RVT) or Registered Diagnostic Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS required within one year of employment.
  • Certification or registry in an accredited society within one year of employment to continue employment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and coworkers.
  • Ability to effectively organize work to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force (Medium Work).
  • Physical Activity Constantly Performed (67%-100%): Distinguish colors, Hearing, Reaching, Repetitive Motions, Seeing/Visual, Speaking/talking, Standing, Walking.
  • Job Hazards: Radiation (Alpha, Beta and Gamma), Radiation (Non-Ionizing).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs cardiac or vascular procedures according to department policy and procedures, utilizing digital imaging.
  • Selects from work list 100% of the time or follows downtime guidelines for patient demographic information, ensuring accurate data transfer to medical records.
  • Works with Information Technology (IT) for work list issues and manual scanning of finalized results.
  • Obtains accurate patient history, study indications, and critical measurements for physician interpretation.
  • Acquires all images digitally, assigns them for physician interpretation, and ensures all studies are sent and edited within 24 hours.
  • Educates patients on the procedure before it begins and checks for understanding.
  • Logs each patient and bills appropriately in Cerner following the procedure.
  • Provides critical lab results to the ordering department, ensuring read-back for clarification and documenting the interaction.
  • Collaborates in maintaining proper inventory and works with IT and Bio-Med when equipment or systems are down, keeping the manager informed.
  • Provides age-specific care to patients to ensure understanding and comfort, as outlined by age-specific criteria guidelines.
