About The Position

UP Health System- Marquette is seeking a Sonographer for a .75 FTE (30 hours/week) position with varied shifts. This role is part of the MAST Union. UP Health System- Marquette is part of Lifepoint Health, a healthcare delivery network committed to employee well-being and community health. As a Sonographer, you will operate ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures, calibrate and maintain equipment, prepare and assess patients of all ages, provide basic patient care, maintain infection control, and assist with record-keeping and patient flow. You will also check physician requisitions, assist in invasive procedures using sterile technique, and possess a strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and ultrasound techniques to enhance diagnostic results.

Requirements

  • Graduated 2 year AMA Allied Health Program
  • Associate’s degree Required
  • Graduate of approved program of Ultrasound/Sonography or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
  • ARDMS Registered or if new graduate, must be ARDMS eligible and pass a test in at least one area (i.e. Abdomen, OBGYN) including physics within one year of employment.
  • State license to practice as a Sonographer.

Responsibilities

  • Operates ultrasound equipment to perform clinical diagnostic ultrasound exams and routine invasive procedures according to established standards and practices.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures and tasks.
  • Calibrates, adjusts, and maintains ultrasound and peripheral equipment.
  • Assesses and prepares patients of all ages for examinations and explains procedure to patient and/or family while performing the examination.
  • Provides basic patient care and comfort.
  • Maintains infection control and universal precautions as it relates to patient care and equipment.
  • Receives patients, explains method of procedure and makes sure patient is comfortable.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies and organizes work area.
  • Keeps accurate records, helps with scheduling of the ultrasound and keeps patient flow smooth.
  • Checks the physician's requisition for complete information on the procedure requested and refers any questions to the ultrasound physician before performing the procedure.
  • Assists the radiologist/referring physician in invasive procedures using sterile technique while maintaining infection control guidelines.
  • Recognizes the significance of all structures that are visualized on the monitor and be able to differentiate artifacts from anatomic/pathologic structures within equipment limitations.
  • Possesses an in-depth knowledge of anatomy/physiology, technical expertise and able to improve standard procedures to enhance diagnostic results when needed.
