About The Position

Roseville Area Schools has a vacancy for a Somali cultural liaison to work under the general direction of the building principals and district-wide under the supervision of the multilingual program administrator. This position is part-time (daytime and some evenings), 20 hours per week (4 hours per day) following a 185-day calendar beginning September 1, 2026.

  • Understanding of Somali culture and community
  • Ability to bridge the gap between home culture and learning environment
  • Skills in promoting meaningful communication between home and school
  • Experience working with individual or small groups of students
  • Ability to provide information and insight to educators and IEP teams
  • Assisting educators and leaders in understanding cultural impacts on educational progress
  • Facilitating parent understanding and involvement in educational programs
  • Knowledge of district policies and parent rights

Responsibilities

  • Engage with students, staff and families to promote and support Somali student achievement through bridging the gap between the culture at home and the learning environment
  • Promote meaningful communication between home and school
  • Work with individual or small groups of students so as to reduce the role of race in predicting student outcomes
  • Provide information and insight to educators and Special Education IEP teams about students' race, cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic background
  • Assist educators and leaders in understanding how racial, cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic factors impact educational progress
  • Facilitate students' parents' understanding and involvement in the educational program and knowledge of their rights under district policies
