About The Position

Bolder Apps is hiring a Solutions Architect to design systems for products built for US-based clients. The role leads technical work from the first discovery call, translating client ideas into architecture, project scope, and plans the engineering team can deliver. It is a design and review role rather than a coding position: the Solutions Architect guides developers, reviews code and architecture, and owns technical quality from kickoff through launch. Projects include web, mobile, and AI products, often involving multi-tenant configurations, third-party integrations, and significant privacy and security requirements. The position is a fully remote, hourly contract role for candidates in the countries listed in the original posting, with availability to overlap US Eastern business hours for client calls. The architect works with clients, sales, project managers, and engineers to produce practical designs, scopes, estimates, and delivery plans. Bolder Apps describes itself as a product development studio serving US-based startups and established companies, specializing in AI-powered development, full-cycle product creation, and engineering team augmentation. Its culture emphasizes autonomy, ownership, fast execution, AI-augmented work, and bringing ideas proactively.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years designing systems as a solutions architect, technical lead, or in a similar role.
  • Agency, consultancy, or studio experience designing for multiple clients and switching between projects while maintaining quality.
  • Experience owning architecture for client products that launched and served real users.
  • Strong backend and data fundamentals, including API and relational data-model design (Postgres or similar).
  • Cloud architecture experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, including containers, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Practical integration-design experience with third-party APIs, webhooks, SSO and OAuth, background queues, and failure handling.
  • Hands-on experience architecting LLM or RAG features for production client products, including evaluation and understanding effects on cost, latency, and testing.
  • Ability to review code and architecture, identify when implementation diverges from the design, and explain fixes to engineers.
  • Comfort running client-facing technical calls and explaining trade-offs plainly to non-technical founders.
  • Ability to write clear technical scopes and estimates that engineering teams can meet.
  • Daily use of AI tools in design, review, and writing workflows.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Availability for live client calls during US Eastern business hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, row-level security, or white-label deployments.
  • Experience with products requiring strict privacy or compliance, such as sensitive personal data, data residency rules, or third-party security audits.
  • Mobile architecture experience with React Native or Flutter.
  • Comfort reviewing TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS or similar) and React or Next.js code.
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical standards for a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery with clients, identify constraints, and turn ideas into clear solution designs.
  • Design system architecture for web, mobile, and AI products, including services, data models, hosting, and system interactions.
  • Write technical proposal and scope-of-work content, including modules, user flows, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and estimates.
  • Design third-party API and vendor integrations, including retries, queues, webhooks, monitoring, and provider-swapping strategies.
  • Plan multi-tenant and white-label systems with data isolation and access control.
  • Build security and privacy into designs, including encryption, audit logs, consent, data residency, and evidence for external audits.
  • Design AI and LLM features, including model selection, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), guardrails, and production quality evaluations.
  • Plan phased delivery, starting with a lean MVP while preparing for the full build without requiring a rewrite.
  • Work with sales and project managers on scope, timelines, and risk, and raise concerns early when plans are not feasible.
  • Review developers’ code, pull requests, and technical approaches; identify deviations from the design and explain corrective changes.
  • Guide and unblock engineers, establish technical standards, and own technical quality through delivery and handover.
  • Keep architecture documentation current so team members can understand and continue the work.

Benefits

  • Steady pipeline of client work as part of a growing team.
  • Real ownership over technical design, without a rigid playbook.
  • Direct access to decision-makers, with no extra layers between the role and those who own the outcome.
  • Peer network of engineers, designers, and project managers working on overlapping projects.
