Solutions Architect

Dillon Consulting LimitedLondon, ON
CA$110,000 - CA$130,000Hybrid

About The Position

We are seeking a Solutions Architect to establish and own solution and technical architecture across our technology portfolio. This is a permanent, senior technical role within our IT Solutions team, created to close a structural capability gap: as our portfolio of custom applications, integrations, and automation grows, we need a dedicated owner for architectural decisions, standards, and technical direction. In this role, you will be deeply integrated within a 10-member software development team by actively reviewing technical specifications, developing prototypes, and delivering highly functional designs tailored for immediate development. You will own our data architecture, define our automation framework, and act as the team's focal point for complex integration and design challenges. This permanent, full-time hybrid arrangement requires working on-site at least three days a week. While our technology team is primarily based in London, Ontario, our community spans all 25 of Dillon’s Canadian offices, and we welcome candidates to work from any of them.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven expertise with architecture modeling frameworks and languages (e.g., UML), along with a comprehensive understanding of disciplines spanning Business, Data (Information), Application, Technology, and Security.
  • Deep expertise in .NET, SQL, and relational database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL.
  • Proficiency across a wide array of integration and automation technologies, including APIs, ETL, RPA, workflow automation, business rules engines, and low-code platforms.
  • Familiarity with major cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with a preference for Azure experience; relevant certifications are considered a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions across multiple teams while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders and external vendors.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in software engineering and solution architecture, featuring a sustained commitment to hands-on delivery and a strong passion for both designing and building systems.
  • Experience supporting an ERP or other enterprise system initiative through implementation, upgrade, or major integration, with some exposure to data migration or customization decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous professional experience within complex, regulated, or multi-stakeholder environments is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, define, and facilitate solution architecture that leverages enterprise capabilities, optimizing processes, technology, data, and people.
  • Stay hands-on: build proofs of concept and reference implementations, pair with developers on complex problems, and contribute to code reviews and technical spec reviews.
  • Own integration points between ERP and legacy systems, front-end, back-end, and satellite systems; identify and flag solution delivery risks early.
  • Establish and maintain the reference architecture for our external-facing applications, including API design, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements.
  • Set the architectural direction for AI-enabled solutions: define the patterns, guardrails, and evaluation standards for how AI capabilities are integrated into our applications and automation portfolio.
  • Champion AI-assisted development across the team, establishing how coding assistants and agentic tools fit into our engineering practices, code review standards, and definition of done.
  • Apply organizational standards and architectural principles to define infrastructure non-functional requirements and ensure adherence to guidelines.
  • Act as the focal point for resolving complex infrastructure and development issues through high-quality, pragmatic design.
  • Produce clear architecture artifacts: diagrams, decision records, and target/transition-state plans that developers can build from.
  • Collaborate with technology teams, business leaders, sponsors, and stakeholders to develop solution designs and technology roadmaps.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiency; introduce new patterns and technologies that improve business value and align with modern ways of working.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, with a preference for simplicity and a willingness to challenge technical constraints through iterative approaches.
