About The Position

The Solution Engineer - Data Governance is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the software utilities, automations, and integrations that power the organization's data governance program. This role centers on writing code, primarily in Python, to solve practical governance challenges, extend and connect governance tooling, and automate the manual work involved in cataloging, classifying, and controlling data assets. The position works closely with business data stewards, data engineering teams, and key stakeholders to translate governance requirements into reliable, reusable technical solutions and self-service capabilities for governed data assets. In addition to building governance tooling, the Solution Engineer - Data Governance will implement and automate data access controls, data classification, and policy enforcement, and maintain governance metrics and reporting across systems. This role also involves creating reporting for stakeholders, supporting regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement of the governance platform. The ideal candidate pairs strong hands-on programming ability with practical knowledge of data governance and cataloging tools to deliver scalable, efficient solutions that foster a culture of data stewardship and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience building software utilities, automations, or data tooling (Python or similar), ideally in support of data governance, data management, or data engineering.
  • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python for building utilities, automations, and integrations; experience with other scripting or programming languages is a plus.
  • Experience integrating systems through REST APIs and SDKs, and working with SQL and data querying tools.
  • Knowledge of data lifecycle management and data architecture.
  • Understanding of compliance requirements with regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities; familiarity with healthcare data such as EHR, ICD/CPT, and SNOMED/LOINC is a plus.
  • Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation including AI to explore better processes and ways to alleviate friction and improve patient and client experiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare or Revenue Cycle Management setting is a plus.
  • Preferred certification in: Microsoft Certified, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified, Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate, Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), or DAMA Certified Data Steward.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview is a strong plus, including cataloging, classification, lineage, and use of the Purview APIs and SDK.
  • Familiarity with data governance and cataloging platforms (e.g., Purview, Databricks, Collibra, Informatica, Alation) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI).

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain utilities and automation scripts to support and extend the organization's data governance program.
  • Develop solutions to overcome gaps and limitations in existing data governance and cataloging tooling.
  • Build and maintain integrations between governance tools and other platforms using their APIs and SDKs.
  • Automate data cataloging, classification, and metadata management activities.
  • Collaborate with business data stewards to translate governance policies into code and automate their enforcement across data assets.
  • Develop and automate data classification and sensitivity labeling to protect regulated and confidential data.
  • Configure, schedule, and monitor catalog scans and metadata harvesting jobs to ensure efficient operation and successful completion, and remediate failures.
  • Build and maintain data lineage tracking so stakeholders can trace how data moves and transforms across systems.
  • Develop self-service access request workflows for data products.
  • Develop low-code/no-code solutions to enable self-service of governed data assets.
  • Maintain and update governance coverage metrics and reporting (for example, cataloged, classified, and owned assets) for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with data governance and engineering teams to enforce data standards and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational data governance requirements, and document code, procedures, and solutions.
  • Contribute to governance tooling improvement initiatives and corrective actions as needed.
