About The Position

CGI is seeking a Solution Architect who will shape and lead the future of federal IT modernization. In this role, you will define the vision for how U.S. Federal civilian agencies transition from complex, legacy application ecosystems to modern, secure, and data driven platforms. Your success will be measured by your ability to bring clarity to large scale application portfolios, uncover modernization pathways using advanced AI enabled analysis, and guide agencies toward actionable, evidence based transformation decisions. You will apply your expertise across legacy system analysis, enterprise architecture, cloud adoption, Zero Trust alignment, and AI supported engineering to produce modernization roadmaps that agencies can trust and execute against. Success in this role requires a blend of systems thinking, technical depth, and collaborative leadership. You will thrive if you can translate complex environments into actionable insights, drive alignment across diverse stakeholders, and leverage emerging technologies—especially AI/ML and automated analysis—to create scalable, secure, and future ready solutions. If you're energized by high impact transformation and excel at bringing structure, clarity, and innovation to ambiguity, come help us lead our clients into the next generation of enterprise modernization. This position is located in our Fairfax,VA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 6-8 years in enterprise scale technical roles spanning architecture, engineering, or large system modernization.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership delivering complex modernization, cloud migration, or application rationalization programs across hybrid environments.
  • Proven expertise in enterprise architecture, including modernization of legacy systems, microservices, API led integration, event driven patterns, and multi cloud platforms.
  • Hands on experience with automated analysis and modernization tooling.
  • Deep understanding of data architectures, including ETL/ELT pipelines, authoritative data sources, data quality, and enterprise data governance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security and compliance frameworks, including IAM/RBAC/ABAC models, NIST 800-53, FedRAMP High architectures, Zero Trust, and ATO boundary considerations.
  • Experience developing modernization roadmaps, sequencing technical work, mapping dependencies, and driving alignment across business, IT, and cybersecurity stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable plans for leadership, engineers, and mission stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams, influence architectural decision making, and drive consensus in large, matrixed environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in portfolio level rationalization, systems consolidation, or enterprise modernization initiatives involving complex legacy ecosystems.
  • Hands on experience with AI assisted code analysis, dependency mapping, and architecture discovery.
  • Hands on experience with AI/ML enabled engineering, automated refactoring, test generation, or code transformation tools.
  • Experience creating and governing reusable patterns, reference architectures, and modernization playbooks.
  • Certification in program/technical leadership, such as PMP, Scrum Master, or ITIL.

Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive inventory, discovery, and analysis of application portfolios applying structured methodologies and using AI powered tools.
  • Evaluate applications for modernization, consolidation, migration, or retirement, aligning with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Develop and apply scoring models to assess business value, technical health, security posture, cost, integration complexity, and modernization readiness.
  • Document “as is” technical architecture, integrations, hosting environments, data flows, and technology stack attributes. Use AI tooling to create knowledge graphs and related deliverables that inform decision making and options analysis.
  • Visualize integration maps, data maps, and infrastructure baselines to provide a clear understanding of system interdependencies and deployment models.
  • Identify documentation gaps and areas relying on tribal knowledge or unwritten information, automating discovery and inventory processes.
  • Develop modernization roadmaps, including sequencing of actions, interdependency mapping, budget/resource planning, and cloud migration timelines.
  • Define engineering standards, processes, and tools for application modernization, including reference architectures, coding/API standards, and reusable patterns for microservices and integration.
  • Emphasize the use of AI throughout the systems lifecycle; design, build, and deploy AI/ML solutions and generative AI applications; architect complex AI pipelines.
  • Lead production of migration runbooks, cutover plans, and ATO support artifacts.
  • Serve as expert on AI/ML driven rationalization tooling; integrate best in class solutions to support rationalization at scale and speed.
  • Apply practical working knowledge of leading AI solutions that enable optimized rationalization.
