Solution Architect / Engineer

LeidosWashington DC, DC
Onsite

About The Position

Leidos is seeking a highly versatile and hands-on Solution Architect / Engineer with broad expertise across enterprise networks, infrastructure, cloud platforms, and systems engineering. This role combines high-level architectural design with deep technical implementation, requiring an individual who can define target-state architectures, build and optimize solutions, and guide modernization across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. The candidate will be required to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, cost-optimized, and aligned with long-term business objectives. This work is located onsite in the DC area. Hands-on implementation experience is critical — this is not a purely strategic/theoretical role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, OR in a related field and 12+ years of relevant experience OR Masters degree with 10+ years of relevant experience. Additional years of experience will be considered/accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in enterprise architecture, infrastructure engineering, and cloud solutions.
  • 12+ years in a leadership or lead architect role, including team task management, conducting stand-ups, and delivering executive-level status reports.
  • Proven hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions across hybrid/multi-cloud environments (AWS and Azure strongly preferred), on-premises data centers, virtualization platforms, and containerized workloads (e.g., Kubernetes/Docker).
  • Strong background in enterprise networking including LAN/WAN, VPN, SD-WAN, firewalls, load balancers, VPC/VNet, routing, peering, and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated success leading infrastructure modernization, legacy system migrations, and large-scale technical implementations.
  • Experience with automation and scripting using Python, PowerShell, Bash, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Track record of creating high-quality technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, integration maps, runbooks, and implementation guides.
  • Deep understanding of security, compliance, and governance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
  • Expertise in designing scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-optimized architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across networking, cloud platforms, systems, and application layers.
  • Ability to analyze and document complex system and application data flows.
  • Experience with capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP or equivalent project/program management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Enterprise Architecture team lead; assigning and managing team tasks, conducting daily stand ups and status updates, preparing weekly consolidated reports, and delivering updates to the federal lead.
  • Define and develop target infrastructure architectures across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, networks, platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Design and implement end-to-end technical solutions, ensuring scalability, resilience, performance, and cost optimization.
  • Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives, including evaluation of legacy systems, migration strategies, and adoption of new technologies.
  • Engineer and deploy solutions across cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), virtualization environments, on-premises datacenters, and containerized workloads.
  • Architect and build network solutions including LAN/WAN, VPN, SD WAN, firewalls, load balancers, and cloud networking (VPC/VNet, subnets, gateways, routing, peering).
  • Create detailed architectural diagrams, including data flow diagrams, integration maps, logical/physical infrastructure designs, and solution blueprints.
  • Analyze and document system and application data flows to ensure secure, efficient, and reliable communication between components.
  • Develop automation and code-based solutions using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated, high-level technical issues across networking, cloud, systems, and application layers.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology platforms, integration patterns, and architectural standards based on business and technical imperatives.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to security, governance, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI-DSS).
  • Support capacity planning, resiliency strategies, disaster recovery architecture, and business continuity design.
  • Collaborate closely with project management team, engineering, security, and application teams throughout design, build, deployment, and optimization phases.
