About The Position

This position enhances the quality of life for City of Enid residents by coordinating the efficient removal, recycling, and disposal of residential and commercial waste. The role involves providing motivation, oversight, training, tools, and equipment to collection employees, as well as developing and implementing a preventive maintenance program to lower repair costs and ensure reliable operation of collection vehicles and other equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent two-year college or technical school; or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record-keeping, routine database activity to include development of spreadsheets, formulas, record tracking applications, word processing, graphics, etc.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers.
  • Normal vision, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communications and public relations abilities.
  • Basic typing and computer application skills.
  • Ability to assist and support others.
  • Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and heavy-duty commercial equipment and vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Solid Waste Department operations to ensure safety, security, and maintenance.
  • Develop short-term and long-term goals, deadlines, and processes for waste collection and equipment maintenance.
  • Analyze internal processes and recommend/implement procedural or policy changes to improve operations.
  • Plan, administer, and control budgets for equipment and supplies, including bid work.
  • Prepare and review operational reports and schedules for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prepare, compile, and submit reports on work activities, operations, production, and work-related accidents.
  • Oversee projects to improve efficiency and ensure facilities and equipment meet environmental, health, and security standards, and comply with government regulations.
  • Supervise, assign, and review work schedules of crew.
  • Coordinate adequate cross-training of employees, including safety policies and procedures.
  • Recommend or implement personnel actions such as employee selection, evaluation, or disciplinary actions.
  • Stay updated on new developments in Solid Waste practices and equipment.
  • Investigate and reconcile citizen complaints.
  • Provide assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
