About The Position

Lake County Solid Waste is accepting applications for a Driver / Operator position. This is a full-time, union-covered role with varied hours that requires weekend work. The position involves driving a transfer truck, managing containers, performing minor repairs and maintenance, operating heavy equipment, and handling landfill duties. The role also requires knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to commercial motor vehicles and the ability to lift up to 80lbs. The position is subject to drug and alcohol testing per FMCSA guidelines.

Requirements

• Valid Class B CDL
• Acceptable driving record
• Minimum of 1 year of CDL driving experience in winter conditions
• Ability to operate large trucks and heavy equipment safely and skillfully
• Ability to conduct minor repair and maintenance of trucks and equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and temperatures
• Ability to work well with the public and coworkers
• Knowledgeable of all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to the operation of commercial motor vehicles
• Ability to lift 80lbs

Nice To Haves

• Class A CDL is preferred
• Roll-off and pup trailer experience is preferred

Responsibilities

• Drive transfer truck to container sites
• Set empty containers
• Retrieve loaded containers
• Deliver and unload containers
• Consolidate loaded containers
• Clean area around container site, truck, and trailer
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment
• Operate heavy equipment
• Move and compact waste
• Perform landfill duties, including working at the ticket shack
• Perform other duties as assigned
