Soldering Technician

Rajant Corp•Malvern, PA

About The Position

Rajant Health is developing wearable devices for health sensing. We’re looking for an electronics technician with excellent microsoldering and board-level repair skills to handle the demanding rework our miniaturized board stacks and assemblies require. You’ll work directly with our VP of Hardware, who brings extensive repair and microsoldering experience, and will work closely with our hardware engineers to modify, repair, and test new designs. Your work will help us test ideas quickly and make future designs easier to build and repair. We welcome experience from phone, smartwatch, tablet, laptop, and other consumer-electronics repair, including logic-board and motherboard work, as well as manufacturing and prototype labs. Our double-sided boards use 0201 and 01005 components, 0.4 mm pitch board-to-board connectors, and miniature chip-scale devices; comparable precision work on other products is welcome. If you do not have prior experience working with components at this scale, but are a fast learner with a steady hand, we can train you up to speed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated microsoldering and component-level repair skill on miniature components and fine-pitch connectors, with consistent results.
  • Confident use of a microscope, fine soldering tools, and hot-air equipment, with sound decisions about heating, board support, and component protection.
  • Comfort using a multimeter and following a defined test procedure, with clear communication about what is verified and what remains uncertain.
  • Follow instructions accurately, work efficiently, ask focused questions, flag mistakes promptly, and help resolve them.
  • A particular degree, certification, or number of years is not required; demonstrated skill is the most important qualification.

Nice To Haves

  • Miniature BGA, WLCSP, and other leadless-device replacement, including pad preparation, alignment, and repair verification; particularly valuable for our boards.
  • Read schematics and diagnose shorts, power problems, and intermittent connections.
  • Use power supplies, oscilloscopes, and fixtures for board bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Load firmware, run existing tests, check device communication, or collect logs.
  • Familiarity with IPC-7711/7721 rework and repair through training or experience; certification is optional.
  • Broader electronics and firmware understanding can expand the role.

Responsibilities

  • Replace fine-pitch connectors and SMT/SMD components on prototype PCB assemblies; repair pads and traces and make fine-wire modifications.
  • Plan each operation to protect both populated sides of the board, nearby parts, connector housings, and optical surfaces.
  • Follow engineering instructions and verify part numbers, values, orientation, board revision, and solder-bridge configurations.
  • Track which boards have been modified, inspected, and tested.
  • Check alignment, solder joints, and surrounding components, then complete the specified continuity, short-circuit, power-rail, and functional checks.
  • Record changes, results, and unresolved issues, improve methods and fixtures, and maintain an organized bench with appropriate ESD practices.
